Our bi-monthly Compendium can now be enjoyed online!
We Cosmonians are foodies. We LOVE food. Food fulfils so much more than
our physical needs. It provides a window to the soul of a culture. It describes
the lifestyle of a place. Indonesia is such a big and diverse country, if there is
one representative food, it would easily be “nasi” (rice). It represents us not
because it is our one of our staples, but because there are so many renditions
of rice dishes across the country. Nasi uduk, nasi liwet, nasi ulam, nasi gudeg,
nasi tim, nasi kemangi, nasi bekepor, nasi kuning, nasi minyak, nasi megono,
nasi tutug oncom, nasi gandul, nasi gegok, nasi lengko, nasi campur… the
hundreds of variations of these from Sabang to Merauke across the country
(Have we made you hungry yet?). It is not an understatement to say that
“nasi” is our expression of “unity in diversity”.
